Adventures in Beater ville
First Encounter
Harry Pothead first arrived on Prince Edward Island in the mid seventies. A veteran of the inner planetary struggle he came seeking refuge and peace. His ship destroyed on entry left him stranded.
At first Harry was overcome with his oneness. "What will become of me" he cried? Violence and aggression had been the tools of his trade. Will I ever feel human?
A great part of him had been lost on the journey.
Before he had time to think bright lights from a strange sounding craft took him totally by surprise. Coming to an abrupt stop inches from Harry a strange Mars like character calling himself The Doctor appeared from within.
“U looking for a cab?” Then silence.” Not from around here are you?”
“No”.
“You look lost?”
“I am”
“Smoke this it will help”.
One puff Harry began to levitate.
“WOW!”
“Man I never saw anything like that before.”
“You don’t do that?”
“Never!”
“So what’s your name?”
“I don’t have one.”
“No name, we will call you Harry, Harry Pothead..”
How do I know about this!
I was in the back seat that night and a witness to all that took place.
Harry sat in the front seat with The Doctor and they talked all night. We drove around dizzy block smoking the strange substance until the vehicle stopped. “What happened” Harry asked. “Fuel! We ran out”. “No problem we can still get more.”
"I don't know about you guys but I'm hungry" Then Silence “I’m going to the Windmill restaurant for breakfast” and I bailed.
Next time I saw Harry was two years later at the Charlottetown Exhibition.
He was working for Bill Lynch in the freak tent levitating and making him self invisible.
He spotted me and waved me over.
“So this is what you have been up to.” “No Just signed on for this one performance, having fun.” “I‘m working on a farm east of town St Theresa, you know the place?” “I think I know the place close to Peaks Station isn’t it?” “That’s right.”
“What ever happened to The Doctor?”
