Fear in the streets of Charlottetown

23 Jan 05

Your papers please!
Well once again I am in trouble with the authorities, screwed up with the local liquor inspector by having patrons in after 2 AM. Don’t know the consequences but this is our first offence so hopefully they will go easy on us.
Not sure if I told you? I run a bar in this town, Brennan’s Pub and Eatery stage door Confederation Center of the Arts; I’ve been here for years, part of the sidewalk if you know what I mean.
Victoria Row is the most beautiful street scaps in eastern Canada. This business and the street have changed considerably over the years. The street has been bricked; no poles or wires above ground, plantings and park benches make for an inviting experience. The properties are owned by a like group of people with common goals; maintain the integrity of the 1880 street scup as a visual reminder of the craftsmanship of our ancestors as well as creating the highest and best use for the properties both individually and collectively. The row is a great place, restaurants, and bars craft shops, specialty coffee shops as well as the Confederation Center of The Arts. A fairly impressive resume for such a small street wouldn’t you say?

Tonight we are experiencing 60 mph winds and are rumored to receive up to 30 cm of snow.
The incredible Daval is here with me, six beer and a half cold zippa or was that pizza? Dave is contemplating venturing out in search of adventure, throwing caution to those 60 mph winds, the man is crazy. Those of us that know you love you Dave or at least one of your personalities. Since starting this conversation Dave has changed his mind and will remain here with me for the evening, the adventure begins.
Joe is marooned at Bobby v rods place, James is in the fish room hoping Bobby v rod will come by in the 4x4 and take him to the China Garden for Szechwan noodles before the roads are completely impassable. This may or may not happen depending on who is in the truck with Bobby and how much work he has before him. But in anticipation of their arrival and the arrival of the leftovers I have put a few beer on ice.
On that note I will sign off, let’s hope I don’t loose my liquor license and that all is well on our island highways tonight.
Your man at ground zero Beater one

Leaving on a jet plain

Jet lag

My daughter Alexa departed the Maritimes yesterday morning on a great adventure; new faces, new job and a new look at the world.
WE went to the airport, Jim, Mur, Sara, Paula and I. Hugs and tears as our little girl along with 1800 lbs of baggage boarded the aircraft, her mother and I watched until the aircraft disappeared into the clouds. As we stood looking teary eyed toward the sky Mur and Paula in perfect harmony turned and said “Cora’s anyone.”
We had a great brunch, Jim, Mur and Sarah went off to ski, Paula went to work on her paper and I went for a nap.
I took some video of the event; you will be able to see it on the beater boy site in the near future.
Advice for my daughter?
I was unable to muster up much great advice; I thought dads were supposed to give advice? This dad however has made so many mistakes the only advice I could give is “Be careful!” stay away from the bears, and have a great time.
I love you
That’s it from beater headquarters

Gordies in wonderland

A PEI Fairytale

On the seventh day all the bootleggers disappeared, the doors were no longer red and the letter of the law was gospel once again to the streets of Charlottetown.
Personally I think it should have been the first PEI reality show, dinner and a bootlegger has a bit of a ring to it don’t you think.
My brother Chris wants to produce, who wants to date a guy on maximum pogy. That was ok until they changed the way they calculate things, now in order to qualify for the show you got to be from away as we islanders don’t make enough to qualify for maximum pogy. I would be asking the QUESTION how many weeks left on your claim and what are your chances of enough weeks for next years claim?
Here at home
My daughter Alexa is preparing to venture to FT McMurray to start her fist job in the mechanical engineering field. She will spend the next eight months working with Syncrude. Paula and I are very proud.
Dave, back from Bermuda, not happy about the cold, wondering how Boomer can still be wearing shorts? Dave were not sure ourselves.
Kitchen party at Brennan’s last night, I have been filming the music for your viewing enjoyment, some is already here on the site, check it out.

You son of a PEI fisherman

Jan 4 2005

The prodigal son has returned

Yes! Dave really was in Bermuda and not in Halifax with Elvis as previously reported. It is true however that Elvis and Dave played together at the Bermuda Hilton.
No, I did not personally see Elvis but then again some of our community thought Dave was in Halifax, I think it was they who saw Elvis.
Kat Murphy is fielding all the requests for autographed pictures of Dave and Elvis. Limited addition photos may exist, $17.95 FOB Charlottetown. Send cash; please send cash remember cash, that was the stuff before plastic. If you don’t have cash, we got a problem! Ah what the heck, you being a friend and all, make the check out to Dave Howard. One more thing, if no photos are available Dave promises to send you two pictures within ten days of the next photo shoot. All cash and checks will be spent by Dave in search of Elvis in order that he secure that special photo just for you.
Here on the home front The Doz-R-Girls are on the move, Kat will be operating out of our Newfoundland office for the next few weeks, yeah surprised me too; I didn’t know we had an office there. Sheena has just returned home from Cuba and hay is that Bev in the window the one with the drugs over there. A poet I’m not. And not to be out done, the beater boys have been busy, James has returned from his Ottawa adventure, Bruce is back from TO, and Joe is still in Limbo, no sign of Scott? Keith is in MODE, Bobby is in the truck, and me, I remain your raving reporter

Still alive in 2005

1 Jan 05
Well it’s a new year; do you guys feel any different? I always thought the world would end before this, surprised the hell out of me 2005. I for one am very happy to be here with you and if you are reading this you too are still alive in 2005, congratulations!
Went to the levies, city hall and the Mayor then off to Confederation centre with Premier Bins and the boys. Free food and wine for all. Thanks for having me. Got my picture taken with Pat, Mr. Premier to you.
Bev was in to say happy New Year; she was on her way to a wake. Two levies and a wake, good plot for a movie. No sign of Bobby definitely must be love! Brother James is in Ottawa eating Indian food and drinking wine. Check out www.falconsballcup.com, Mat, son of James, hockey night in Ottawa, we at home are proud of you guys. James stop having so much fun. And Bobby! Come up for air.
Not much else to tell.
Me! I do have a few new years resolutions but I’m not sure if I can share them with you, like blowing out the candles on your birthday cake and making a wish, I ‘m not sure what the rules are on resolutions? Scott, Is there a beater rule for this in the handbook? How are we coming on that handbook anyway and will there being an additional cost to the beater boys for the handbook? Or will the handbook be delivered on line? So many questions so few answers.
Wow! I’m rambling; let me take this opportunity to say thanks to all my friends for making my life so much fun.
You will be glad to know Bobby finally came up for air.
